Cognitive distortions are defined as systematic thinking errors that often occur unconsciously and influence how individuals process and evaluate information and make decisions. My research is centered on the examination of cognitive distortions that emerge under circumstances of uncertainty and are associated with the transdiagnostic phenotype of compulsive behavior and intrusive thought (e.g., behavioral addictions, obsessive-compulsive disorder, substance use disorders) as well as its subclinical manifestations. The objective is to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the shared differences in metacognition, the neurobiological mechanisms involved, and their role in the maintenance of maladaptive behaviors. Additionally, I am interested in the neurobiological mechanisms underlying the treatment of addiction with psychedelics.
