Further development and establishment of vocational rehabilitation research in the context of work and health
Background
Vocational rehabilitation aims to enable long-term participation in working life for people with health impairments and disabilities. Just like the world of work, it is faced with new opportunities and challenges caused by social changes. Advancing digitalization, globalization, the effects of climate change and demographic change require a proactive (re)design of processes in vocational rehabilitation on an individual and structural level. Research into vocational rehabilitation should accompany the changes and show new paths. Since vocational rehabilitation research has not yet been established as an independent discipline with an independent teaching area, strategies are needed for further development and sustainable protection. It is relevant to highlight interfaces and cooperation potential between related disciplines and to initiate exchange.
A planned scoping workshop, in which scientists will look at vocational rehabilitation research from different perspectives, starts at this point and aims to develop a future-oriented research profile for vocational rehabilitation and to establish requirements for reliable structures. The results of the workshop will then be published in a position paper.
